In Memoriam: His Eminence, Metropolitan Christopher PDF Print E-mail

His Emenence Metroplitan ChristopherCHICAGO, IL -- His Eminence, Metropolitan Christopher [Kovacevich] of Libertyville and Chicago of the Serbian Orthodox Church fell alseep in the Lord here on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, the eve of the Great Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord according to the Julian Calendar.

Metropolitan Christopher recently had been diagnosed with bone and brain cancer, for which he was undergoing treatment.

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, was to have visited Metropolitan Christopher at his residence at the end of this week, in conjunction with his archpastoral visit to Holy Trinity Church, Clayton, WI the weekend of August 21-22 and the annual clergy convocation of the Diocese of the Midwest August 23-25.

Prayers requested for Bishop Nikon PDF Print E-mail

BOSTON, MA [OCA] -- Prayers are requested for the ongoing health of His Grace, Bishop Nikon of Boston, New England and the Albanian Archdiocese, who recently underwent surgery to remove a very small tumor in close proximity to his vocal cords.

Bishop Nikon will undergo several weeks of radiation, during which he will curtail some of his previously scheduled visitations.

Archpriests Arthur Liolin and John Kreta, Chancellors of the Albanian Archdiocese and Diocese of New England respectively, reported that Bishop Nikon wishes to stress how positive he is about the results of recent tests, while requesting the faithful to keep him and those who are guiding his care and treatment in their prayers.

Please plan to support and attend a concert benefiting the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) sung by the COCC InterOrthodox Choir.  This must attend event is on Sunday, October 17, at 5pm at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2160 East Maple Road, Troy, MI 48083-4400.  While we have not set a ticket price we pray that you will be generous with your free will donation to this worthy charity.

St. Nicholas Children’s event entitled The Truth About Santa Claus will be presented on Saturday, December 18th, 2pm – 4:30pm at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, 29150 W. Ten Mile Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48336.  This is an exciting event featuring a great opportunity for children to learn the truth about St. Nicholas, learn of Christmas customs and of course, meet St. Nicholas in person!  Past President Richard Shebib is the Chairman.
